Developer-Friendly: The entire A2 platform is extensible, so you'll be able to integrate all of the tools you currently use with your website, no matter how complex or obscure. If, for some reason, A2 doesn't currently offer support for an integration that you need, you can open a support ticket and request a feature enhancement from the A2 development team.
Cons
Complexity: A2 offers a lot of options, which can be overwhelming for someone looking for a simple, easy to use webhost without a lot of distractions. Developer-friendly, in some senses, is inherently the opposite of "hassle-free" and "very easy to use."
Not PCI Compliant: while this limitation can easily be rectified by integrating with a secure shopping cart solution, some creators of online stores may prefer a web host that is, by default, PCI compliant and therefore requires no additional work when setting up an online store for e-commerce.
Room for Improvement
No web hosting company is perfect, and A2 Hosting is not the exception. Here are some features we would like to see improved/areas of weakness:
No website builder: we understand that A2 offers products created by developers, for developers, but we think there is a time and place for website builders. First, just because someone knows how to program does not mean it is the optimal use of their time. Second, website builders are great ways to get the scaffolding of a website up and running in no time flat. This leaves the webmaster with time to customize the site and not worry about initial issues like layout and design.
Overwhelming Number of Options: A2 Hosting's options are infinitely flexible, so you are likely to find something that fits your needs and has the features you want. However, if you are just getting started and you are not completely sure which option sold by A2 is right for you, the multitude of options will likely result in decision fatigue.
Free migrations...with a catch: if you are moving a website to A2 Hosting, and your previous web host provider offered you a cPanel to manage your site, your migration process will likely be easier. If not, you will need to enlist the assistance of the A2 team. The A2 team claims that they will manage the migration process on your behalf, but you are limited to requesting assistance with only one non-cPanel website.
For A2 Hosting's target demographic, these issues we mentioned probably will not matter. However, if you are less comfortable with server technology, these are items to keep in mind when considering whether A2 Hosting is the right option for you or not.
